Community Art Projects

Art is a mean of transformation. A way of learning to sense ourselves in a different way. To share and engage in something beyond explicitly practical goals. Through art, we also experience a way of being critical and discontent and to apply the tools of experimentation and creation.

We question. We play. We try to be non-judgemental.

Community Art is about doing art. Not about doing social work, in a classical sense. We deeply believe in the power of searching for different ways to do things and perceive ourselves and our enviroment as a transformative force in the society.
The Espacio Arte Foundation has developed several projects involving community members from Santa Elena (mostly young and senior citizens). These projects falls into three categories:

  • Community art projects designed specifically for a certain group and need in the social context: We offer workshops and artistic processes with community members which focus on sharing our knowledge mutually and to engage in artistic research processes. These projects mostly culminate in a public showing, thus inviting the social environment to get involved, as well.
  • The workshops and labs, which focus on a professional approach, are open to members of the community that have expressed a special interest in continuing the processes described above.
